About Gymei

The Gymei, short for Gymnasium Meiendorf, was founded in 1964 and is located in the district Meiendorf in the northern part of Hamburg. There are approximately 720 students attending grades 5-12 in the Gymei, with a focus on bilingual and musical aspects. The staff consists of 75 teachers who are teaching languages (English, French, Latin and Spanish) natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), social sciences (Geography, History, Politics and Economics, Religion, and Philosophy), Art, Music, Drama, P.E., Computer science, Media science, and MUN. The previously mentioned bilingual aspect starts in grade 5, where several classes like P.E., Geography, History, Politics and Economics, Biology and Chemistry are taught in English instead of German. The previously mentioned musical aspect also starts in grade 5, where we have class orchestras. Later, we have an orchestra, a concert band and several choirs. The Summer and Christmas Concerts are always a happening. Since September 2009, our Model United Nations conference is held yearly at the Gymei, named MUNOH (Model United Nations of Hamburg). We are the only school in Hamburg hosting a MUN conference. At the moment, we attend JIMUN, MUNNY, MUNOL and RIMUN. If you're interested in learning more about the school, please visit our Homepage.
